Working with Opi Nails – By Sophie Harris Greenslade
I was so excited and privileged to fly to LA last year to work with OPI on their Spring/Summer 2014 lacquer collections. I had designed nail art using their Couture de Minnie collection before I flew over and we filmed nail art tutorials based on these designs when I arrived.
I was also asked to design nail art tutorials using their Brazil collection which has just launched this February. It was exciting using the shades and creating designs before anyone had seen or heard anything about the collections. The Brazil collection images were shot at the most amazing house in Malibu and it was fantastic being on set to film the Brazilian inspired nail art tutorials. I also met the artistic director of OPI, the lovely Suzi Weiss-Fischmann and was able to give her a manicure using the new Brazil shades in the collection. Such an honor!
I was also asked to work on another incredible OPI collaboration which has just launched this month. I was to make a number of nail sets for Gwen Stefani (!!!!!!) so that they could be applied on the day of the Gwen Stefani for OPI collaboration shoot. We were able to size Gwen Stefani’s nails and I made custom fitting nail designs for her. I made lots of initial designs using the new Gwen collection which also features Swarovski Crystals and Studs. We then chose final designs and I made 12 final sets for the shoot. I absolutely love the images and it was such a privilege being able to work on the designs for the Gwen Stefani for OPI collection. The lacquer shades are just amazing!

Daks AW 2014 – Nails by Sophie Harris Greenslade
It was amazing leading the London Fashion Week manicure team backstage at Daks AW14 show with Orly nails celebrating 120 years of DAKS.
The nail look took cues from the 120th anniversary collection from DAKS so we wanted to encapsulate the contemporary woman that this new collection was inspired by. We opted for a chic glossy pale pink, “First Kiss”, for a subtle, soft yet strong nail. Nude continues to be a big trend so we decided to give the look a twist with a gold shimmer halo. We used “Brush It On” from ORLY’s ‘Smoky’ AW14 collection to mirror the gold detailing that features so prominently in the DAKS AW14 collection. This is a versatile look and perfect for the autumn season ahead.

Jasper Conran AW2014 Nails by Sophie Harris Greenslade
I custom blended two Orly shades especially for the Jasper Conran show; ‘Prelude to a Kiss’ and ‘Country Club Khaki’ to create a beautiful luxe nude with an opaque yet glossy finish.
We added a topcoat to give it an extra super sleek high shine. Jasper Conran sent a fabric swatch from the collection so we could match the colour. He was looking for something clean, opaque but with a luxe feel and I think this custom blended nude really fits the brief perfectly and work so well with the beautiful collection.
The nude nail is definitely here to stay for AW14!

‘ONE NIGHT ONLY’
Paris 21st January 2014
9.17am on the Eurostar and a beautiful bright morning, Paris bound to work with Linda Cantello on ‘One Night Only’ for Giorgio Armani. The call time was 3.30pm so I had plenty of time…..
9.40am Ebbsfleet International :the train has a technical fault we have to go back to Kings Cross St Pancreas… hmmmm
10.30 am leave London once again…sun still shining…
2:40pm Finally get to Paris. Go straight to the show!
Matisse style abstract sketches all around of the make-up by Linda; a charcoal smokey eye.
Even though the look seems quite simple there is lots of layering of products to achieve a very nomadic, mysterious, moorish feel to the makeup
Here’s the step by step.
Step 1: Skin :
- BB cream, high precision or maestro foundation. No powder.
Step 2: Eyes:
- Black pencil on lash line in inner corner of the eye and the outer corner of the eye.
- Blend to a shadow cover with new Armani ‘eye lacquer’ in a slurry grey.
- Layer with a darker shade.
- Keeping the shape, sweep outward and not upward toward the ear.
- Take the colour to the lower lashes but only on the outer corner followed by a thin smudged liquid line.
- Curl lashes and apply mascara on top (eyes to kill).
- Lots of Armani No. 4 Kohl Pencil top and bottom.
Step 3: Brows:
- Keeping them angular but not too heavy, shade in the brows and sweep out to complement the shadow
Step 4: Cheeks:
- Use a taupe Armani pencil to sculpt the cheek bone and blend with warm fingers.
Step 5: Finish:
- A light wash of base on the lip then powder.
The models stand in line as Anna Wintour is taken back stage to take a close look at the gowns; embellished beautiful and beaded as always. It was like watching the queen doing a meet and greet!
Everyone takes their seats and the show begins.unlike the past ‘one night only’ events, the fun stops here for me as the guests are invited to an intimate supper for approx 150 people.
A quick glass of champagne to commemerate this prestigious event with fellow team members and it’s time for bed!
Secretly I can’t wait to go back to my ‘Marilyn Monroe themed hotel (www.platinehotel.fr)!!! With my circular bed, red illuminated shower and lipstick loo. Someone should tell them the wall paper is upside down!
